Gas Blower or Electric Blower: Which Is Right for Your Yard?
When it comes time to clean up your yard, are you better off gassing up or plugging in? Here are a few things to consider before buying a gas or electric blower:
How big of an area are you blowing?
If you have a big yard, a gas-powered blower is your best bet. Just fuel it up and go to work – you’ll be cord free so you can maneuver wherever you need to in order to wrangle debris. For smaller yards, an electric blower should do the job just fine – especially because you won’t need to worry about how far the extension cord extends.
How much power do you need?
Both gas and electric blowers deliver hurricane-force winds; however, gas-powered units are generally stronger. So if you’ve got a lot of trees, the extra CFM & MPH (aka air speed and flow) a gas blower provides will come in handy. But if you’ve got a relatively low-maintenance yard, an electric blower should provide you with plenty of power. Electric models are usually lighter than gas-powered blowers, too.
How noisy do you want to be?
One big advantage of electric blowers is you’re less likely to annoy the neighbors. What you sacrifice in power you’ll make up for in good will and friendly waves.
How much maintenance do you want to perform?
A gas blower will require a little more work than an electric model. You’ll need to perform routine maintenance every so often if you want it to keep it blowing strong for the long haul. No time for tune-ups? An electric blower will keep your yard in good shape with minimal effort on your part.
Another factor to consider when selecting an electric vs. gas blower: do you want vacuum and mulching options? Selected gas and electric blowers can suck up leaves and debris, and can even automatically convert them into mulch for you. Check out one of these handy blower vac models here.
