How to Move a Hydraulic Log Splitter
Unless your yard backs up to a forest, you may need to transport your hydraulic log splitter from time to time. These 4 simple steps will get you on the road:
- First lower the beam into the horizontal position. It should automatically lock, but always double check.
- Then remove the spring clip and clevis pin from the jack stand. To help support the tongue, pivot the jack stand against it. You don’t want to lose the spring clip or clevis pin, so go ahead and secure them back to the splitter. Keep everyone together.
- Unless you’re the hulk, lifting your log splitter is not an option. So, attach a coupler hitch to a class I or higher 2-inch ball on your vehicle. (We’re just assuming you have a vehicle that can haul a log splitter.) If the coupler hitch is too small and doesn’t fit, turn the adjustment nut counterclockwise. If it’s too loose, turn it clockwise.
- Once secure, just connect the chains, plug in the taillights, and remember to turn off the fuel value. Just to be safe, have an outside spotter help you back up. It’s okay, put your friend to work.
So now that you know how to move your gas powered log splitter, how about maintaining it for the long haul?
