How to Maintain Your Gas Blower
Here are a few tips to keep your gas blower running—and keep you from reaching for the rake.
Service the Air Filter
Your air filter needs to be cleaned and re-oiled after every 10 hours of use, otherwise your blower’s performance, and engine, may suffer.
Step 1: Make sure the engine is off and your blower is cool to touch.
Step 2: Press in the locking tab and swing the cover to the left. Remove the filter.
Step 3: Wash it in detergent and water. Rinse it and let it dry.
Step 4: Lightly coat the filter with clean motor oil. Squeeze the air filter to distribute the oil and remove any excess.
Step 5: Now reinstall and close the filter plate by swinging it back to the right. You’ll hear the lock tab click into place.
Check the Spark Plug
Check your spark plug after every 25 hours of use, or if you notice starting or stalling issues.
Step 1: Make sure the engine is off and your blower is cool to touch.
Step 2: Firmly grasp the spark plug boot and pull it from the spark plug. Clean around the spark plug and then remove from the cylinder head. You’ll need a 5/8” socket wrench.
Step 3: Inspect the spark plug. If it’s cracked, blackened, fouled, or otherwise damaged, go ahead and replace it.
Step 4: Use a feeler gauge to set the air gap—refer to your manual for the specs.
Step 5: Now place the spark plug back into the cylinder head and turn the socket clockwise to get it snug. Don’t over tighten. Reattach the spark plug boot.
